Through techniques such as sighting, perspective, and gesture drawing, students learn how to begin and build a drawing with confidence. Classes combine lecture, demonstration, and studio practice and guided feedback. Students will work with charcoal and graphite to develop line quality, value, proportion, and spatial depth through still-life drawing and sustained practice. A foundational course on accurate observation, basic drawing skills, and rendering simple plant forms using line, value, and shape in an artistic way. Focus will be given to identifying features of plants, (brief botany), composition, tonal studies and color studies. By the end of the class series, you will have a good foundational understanding of botanical illustration. There will be one project a week and if desired an at home assignment.
